On June 2nd 2008 the UK government launched its new 7 year strategy for halting and reversing the spread of HIV in the developing world. The strategy sets out the government’s priorities and approach and is accompanied by a spending commitment of £6 billion for health systems and services up to 2015. The Stop AIDS Campaign welcomes the launch of the strategy and supports the government’s decision to provide long term, predictable funding for the strengthening of health systems. However, we are extremely concerned that the government has not acknowledged the importance of HIV specific funding to deliver on the UK’s promise to ‘Make AIDS History’.
